Failure to Rightly Divide the Word – An Example

October 17, 2008

Right division is one of the most important tasks assigned by the Holy Spirit, through the Apostle (II Tim. 2:15), to any student of the Scriptures. Romanism, the plethora of Protestant denominations, and the myriad of “modern” Bible translations, so-called, demonstrate how little care has been exercised in this area.

The following is an excerpt from an email that my wife received from her professing sister, and typifies what can happen when people put the love of the things of this wicked world, ahead of the love of God.

This will make you re-think: A Trivia question in Sunday School: How long is the beast allowed to have authority in Revelation?

Revelation Chapter 13 tells us it is 42 months, and you know what that is.

 Almost a four-year term of a Presidency.

All I can say is ‘Lord, Have mercy on us!’

According to The Book of Revelation the anti-Christ is: The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40’s,  of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal…the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything..

Do we recognize this description??

I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to post this as many times as you can! Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet.. do it!

I refuse to take a chance on this unknown candidate who came out of nowhere.

From: Dr. John Tisdale

Dear Friends,

As I was listening to a news program last night, I watched in horror as Barack Obama made the statement with pride.

..’we are no longer a Christian nation; we are now a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, . . .’

As with so many other statements I’ve heard him (and his wife) make, I never
thought I’d see the day that I’d hear something like that from a presidential
candidate in this nation. To think our forefathers fought and died for the
right for our nation to be a Christian nation–and to have this man say with pride that we are no longer that. How far this nation has come from what our founding fathers intended it to be.

I hope that each of you will do what I’m doing now–send your concerns, written simply and sincerely, to the Christians on your email list. With God’s help, and He is still in control of this nation and all else, we can show this man and the world in November that we are, indeed, still a Christian nation!

Please pray for our nation!

— End email.

Now, I don’t know who this Dr. Tisdale is; neither do I care. What I do care about is that whoever he is, an audience of his faithful followers are being led down the rosy path of deception; the same path this man’s own ignorance and pride have led him. Clearly, neither he nor they have ever cracked the cover of any Bible, to understand it, but have instead, allowed others to do the work for them. They have used it to the advancement of their own personal agendas. They have fed their own wicked imaginations with bits and pieces of the Word, taken out of context. Instead of Truth, they have created for themselves, yet another lie.

II Timothy 2: 15 instructs us to: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God …”. We are to seek God’s approval through our study, not man’s. It goes on: “… a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, …”. Even a casual browsing of Revelation 13 says nothing about Antichrist being a Mohammedan. Nothing about the sons of Ishmael whatsoever. That is pure, unadulterated fantasy and imagination. It could even fall into the category of things described in v.16 of II Timothy 2:

“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”

While I won’t even attempt to interpret the whole book here (for those who desire to do so, I would recommend consulting Dr. Bullinger’s excellent work on the subject as a guide), The Revelation of Jesus Christ, rightly-divided, is future prophecy. You won’t find the Church of God or Church history in it. From beginning to end, it’s a prophecy concerning the Day of the Lord, the coming dispensation of judgement; Not this present dispensation of Grace. It has nothing to do with the Church and everything to do with Israel and the nations. The Church has no tabernacle. It is not “the saints”, spoken of in the context. The Church will not be overcome, as those saints will be. In fact, the term “saints” belongs to the Old Testament dispensation (Old Testament knowledge is necessary for correctly interpreting Revelation, as it relates to that dispensation, not ours). If the Church is found in Revelation, then words have no meaning and have become totally useless for the purpose of learning and communication.

Using wrongly-divided Scripture as justification to the myriads of libelous writings and slanderous remarks made concerning a presidential candidate, not only misrepresents God, bringing disdain to His Holy Name, (Not a good idea, as in the following example of a nation scattered because of it’s bloodshed and idolatry still awaits it’s redemption: “Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.” Ezekiel 36:22-23.), but it also contributes to the world’s perception of Christianity as being an ignorant laughing stock.

Now, we who are members of the One Body know that the world will hate us, because, while we are in it, we are not of it, I see no reason to add fuel to the fire, as it were.

I have written, under my holiness category, that true Christians have no business getting involved in the sphere of politics. Our seat of government is in heaven and the political sphere is all about the earth. What have we to do with such a system? We should vote, yes, as our conscience and the Word of God guides us, for candidates that demonstrate godly principles, but we should not focus our intentions and efforts in political campaigns or parties. It’s tempting, I know. We have the mind of Christ, and know how God would have us to live, but understand, we cannot do away with their Sin. So long as they desire to remain slaves to it, they will remain so.

This nation has moved so far away from it’s founding principles that turning back is impossible. Daniel wrote, concerning Gabriel’s interpretation of the vision of the Day of the Lord: “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.” Daniel 12:10. We must come to understand that the wicked, God-hating people of this world desire a world without God; without His restraint upon sin. They have driven him from the public venue, from education, and sadly, even from many “churches”. They are after your children, to corrupt them; your families, to break them apart; and, your homes, to make you weak and dependent upon their whims. They desire to break down and destroy innocence and all evidence of God in the world, in order that they may ease their own guilty consciences.

The closer we come to God, the stronger and more able to resist their evil we will become. Draw near to Him, Brethren. Fill your hearts and minds with His knowledge, and you will lose the desire to “fix” this world. This world cannot be fixed by our efforts. It is corrupted by Sin (Rom. 8:20-22). Only God can redeem His creation; and He will.

We are in such a time (not the Day of the Lord, but leading up to it). The Puritans left England, coming to America, seeking to build a community where they could worship God according to their understanding of God’s will. Many of us today would do the same, were there a place for us to go. It is again, as it was in Noah’s day, where the whole earth is full of wickedness. There is no place to go. We must look up and ” … press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:14. We must set our affections “… on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Col. 3:2-4.

The Lord Jesus will appear and then we shall be with Him. We have no other place to go; no other hope. So, don’t fall for the lies of the deceivers who say that the Obamas and McCains of this world are the Antichrist. No one is opening the scroll yet. God’s grace still reigns, and true hope is ours in Christ Jesus.

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 8:38-39.
